Rolo Medina

Bandoneon, voice and musical arrangements

He was born in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1983.
He studied classic guitar with Enrique Bocaccio at the « Manuel de Falla » conservatory in the city of Buenos Aires. He studied jazz guitar with Alejandro Moro. At the « Avellaneda Popular Music School » he studied tango history and guitar with the tango master Anibal Arias (musician of Anibal Troilo) and argentinian folklore guitar with Angel « Kelo » Palacios (guitarrist of Mercedes Sosa). He was a disciple of the tango master Bartolomé Palermo (« Palermo Trio ») and also studied guitar técnique and harmony with Roberto Calvo.
  Besides the guitar, he studied bandoneon with Hernan Bartolozzi (« color tango » orchestra) and Walter Hidalgo. He has also taken singing lessons with Carlos Barral. He learned arrangements and orchestration with Ramiro Gallo.
   He has accompanished a big number of tango singers such as Reynaldo Martin, Esteban Riera, Noelia Moncada, Alejandro Guyot, Carlos Barral, Ariel Ardit, etc.
  In 2010 and 2011 he plays in the guitar trio of Nazareno Altamirano (repertory teacher at the Academia Nacional del Tango in Buenos Aires). Since 2009 he plays in duo with the bandoneon player Alain Ray and esporadically collaborates with the argentinian singer Maria de La Paz. In   2011 he composed along DJ David Rossi the music for the T.V. Show “Rossa Fogo in Portugal. In 2012 he also plays in Aureliano Marin's projects.
      He directed his own guitar quartet, the “MEDINA 4” from 2006 up to 2010. In 2008, by a request of the “Unitango” producers, he forms the quintet “El puntazo”. In 2008 he also creates the latinoamerican music group “BIENTITO”. In 2009 and 2010 he plays in the guitar group “Musicantes Porteños”.   
  He has played, among other places, in C.C. Torcuato Tasso (ARG), Confitería “La ideal” (ARG), Auditorio de la Biblioteca Nacional de Bs. As (ARG), 36 billares (ARG), Alghero tango festival (ITA), Luzern tango festival (CH), Aix-les-bains tango festival (FRA), Teatro Temple du Bas(CH), etc, etc.
